When it comes to Italian food, Paul Cortese has the knowledge and experience to run a successful gourmet delicatessen. He acquired his taste for the business in 1980 at the A & S in Yonkers, and has successfully run the A & S in Croton for the past 19 years. Paul and his partner and cousin, Theresa Belluzzi, share a passion for fine food that spans generations. Their grandparents, who immigrated to the US from Bari, Italy, and Paul’s father, Sal Cortese, were both in the business.
“Having a family-run business takes hard work and dedication. You have to love what you do.” says Theresa. “Having my son Michael there every day running the front of the Deli is a relief and a blessing. He is such a people person and will help you find exactly what you need. If we don’t have it, he will get it for you! If you have something special you are looking for just ask, he will make sure you leave happy.”
A & S turns out popular prepared meals, such as lasagna, eggplant rollatini, stuffed artichokes, chicken scarpiello, meatballs, broccoli rabe, grilled vegetables, and a variety of pasta dishes.
